This Popular Song Blows…

Terrestrial radio is littered with talented musicians opting for half-baked formulaic shards of what they once were.

All right. All right.  We get it.  You’re 31 and you still like to snarl.  Excessive drinking makes you cool.  I bet you could  kick my ass.  Your lame attempt to relate to the wannabe bad-ass population is V-A-P-I-D.

Enter the #5 most popular song on iTunes, “Raise Your Glass” by PinkIt’s a song that I hate.

A word of advice to Pink..it’s time to really shock the music world and evolve.

For more music musings, stalk me at Facebook, Twitter, RadioPotato’s RSS Feed, and at music news super-site, The Silver Tongue. Thanks for checking the music out and as always, support emerging artists!

LOL!!! Pink, copying Katy Perry, essentially trying to appeal to Lady Gaga’s ‘Little Monsters’… it’s getting old real quick.

  2. PureGold says:

While you’re certainly entitled to your opinion, I think you missed the message of the song. But her long time (and new) fans didn’t. It’s not the wannabe bad asses that are the subject.

Do I think it’s her best musically? No. Is it catchy, attention grabbing and getting both sides of the fence to talk about her music? Yes. Welcome to the Pop equation. :o)

Re: Gach- She’s been around for 10 years. How long have Katy Perry and Gaga been around?

  3. Gach says:

@PureGold – I see where you’re coming from, but your comment only makes my point even stronger… how talented is she really that she has to continue to copy her style from others? This isn’t the first time – she did several years ago when skate-pop (ie: Avril) was the big thing.

And I’m not even commenting on whether I feel Katy Perry and Gaga are talented or not… it’s just obvious, to me at least, that P!nk is simply trying to cash in on the money train instead of put anything that resembles decent music.

  4. PureGold says:

Here’s the thing. They all use the same producers, probably by “request” of their labels. They’re bound to have a similar sound because of that on certain songs. Yes, it’s to make money. This is what people are buying so they have a 99% guarantee for success.

However, this is her lead single from her new album, a greatest hits album. Her last album had So What and previous to that was Stupid Girls. This album will only have 3 new songs and the rest are songs from previous albums. She just released a 2nd new song this week. Her core fans have all had the same reaction-Raise Your Glass is fun, has built up excitement for the album, but they love #2. Look in the upper right corner at http://www.pinkspage.com to listen if you’d like.

I know this blog entry was “I hate this song”. But my argument is that it’s a song for her fan base, who she has a connection with, and for the most part they appreciate it.

  5. Alan Hodges says:

Big surprise there. 98% of all modern music sucks ass. I just have to turn on a 1960’s oldies station to remind myself of how far we’ve fallen in the genre of music. If you really want a dose of reality listen to Atlanta Rap. They make millions off that horse poo.

  6. Bruce says:

Worst song ever: “Indian Outlaw,” by Tim McGraw. Now I happen to actually like Tim McGraw, and he has grown as an artist, but DAMN this song is bad. Filled with enough Native American stereotypes to make “F-Troop” cringe, it’s a wonder Tim wasn’t beaten within an inch of his life for even singing it. That being said, it went to #8 in 1994.

And my XM is tuned to channel 18, Elvis Radio, and channel 55, Radio Margaritaville. I still haven’t found my lost shaker of salt…
