Ray LaMontagne’s Wife Revealed

18

When left with a little too much time and a little too much curiosity, I wondered what the ultra-private Ray LaMontagne’s wife Sarah Sousa looked like and what her life was like.  Not that I’m planning on being the Perez Hilton of folk music, but… BOOM!  And it’s scandalous and shocking…

I have to say, she LOOKS like she’d be married to Ray LaMontagne.  She looks smart, has old-fashioned haunting eyes, and when I dug a little deeper, it’s no surprise that she’s an accomplished poet.  Here’s what I found from the literary directory Suite 101:

“I am currently working as the correspondent for an online newsletter in my county in Maine. The company I’m employed by is a national news provider with newsletters in small communities across the country.

My first love is poetry and creative non-fiction. I’ve had some poetry published and creative essays in Maine periodicals.

I’m the mother of two sons, Sebastian (3) and Tobias (1). My husband is a blues musician and we all live in a small cabin on 52 acres in Maine. We live without septic, running water, or electricity. Heck, we don’t even have a bathroom or ‘real’ bathtub. That’s roughing it!”

Wow.  So if you’re going to marry Ray LaMontagne, prepare to go back in time at least a hundred years and stay there.  At least there’s comfort in knowing there’s some brilliant in-home entertainment to fill up the time.

Fascinating! I’ve always been curious about his family! Thanks for digging this up…I’m not surprised that YOU were able to find information that no one else seems to have. Always impressed, Ali!

  2. Allison Rizk says:

Just call me Sherlock Holmes…of folk music heroes! :)

  3. TommyOregon says:

There’s something really pure about living that way of life. It not only allows for some serious creative time, but It also almost forces one to be creative. The majority of artist I know struggle to find free time for their craft. So from this musicians viewpoint, Ray’s rustic living Is a good thing, and obviously shines through In his music.

  4. Steve says:

Great job on the research… in all honesty, probably the most interesting thing that i’ve read in a month.

  5. tracey says:

Thank you for the info as I am HUGE fan….however he does live in Mass from what I hear now….they have a LARGE farm there now

  6. Jessica says:

Do you know anything about his relationship with Tristan Prettyman?

  7. Allison Rizk says:

I don’t. I do know that Tristan Prettyman is engaged to Jason Mraz, though.

  8. Jessica says:

They broke up :( , and have officially announced it .

  9. Jessica says:

Tristan and Jason broke up -and I thought it was odd that now all the sudden she was touring with Ray again at music festivals-since she had come between Ray and his wife before- which I read about on Jason’s blog:
“I took TP and we sat on the floor at Ray’s feet and just cried. That night I shook his hand and introduced him to TP. A few months later, TP and I broke up… and she started seeing Ray! Worst nightmare ever!!! Imagine taking your spouse to see a concert of your favorite musician and then later she starts dating him! From then on anytime I heard the name Ray Lamontagne I wanted to puke.”
Ray was married at the time he and Tristan were dating-

  10. Allison Rizk says:

Super shocking! i found that blog and it turns out that the incident with JM and TP was years ago. Just a little bit further down, Mraz wrote: Of course, at the end of their story I got the girl, however, his music now plays an integral part in my healing. Maybe it’s the simplicity in being grateful for my hearing – but one way or another, I am happy to have him (and her) in my life again.

    Still nuts.

  11. Allison Rizk says:

Although I did just read on TP’s Twitter page that they are no longer engaged. The mystery continues…

  12. Sarah says:

Pretty sure there was something between TP and GLove too. I can’t really remember but I thought GLove and Mraz had beef b/c of it.

  13. Nick says:

Yeah. I got drunk with Ray once. When I was stumbling out of the bar, he was full on making out with some blonde sorority girl. Guess what- just because a guy can sing doesn’t mean he isn’t an asshole. of course, it’d be tough to be faithful to the chick from Little House when you have dozens of hot groupie chicks throwing themselves at you on a daily basis.

  14. Vicente says:

I liked Ray until he came to Atlanta and was really uncool to a group of people who were just fans at a radio station where he was invited to play before a show. I left my tv job in a hurry, excited to meet what I hoped was a cool creative human. He’s an ass. I chalked it up to him having a bad day but then he did the same in Austin, Texas after that, I figured, he’s just a prick. Rock and pop I can say, I don’t expect to much from but this is the music for earthy people and people who are mostly cool and laid back. Why he was the way he was, I have no idea but now I stopped listening for the most part and am more annoyed by his music than anything.

  15. jo says:

I have never seen Ray live , have no idea what it is like, but I do love his music. As for the rest of he commentators-GET a Life. He isn’t out there trying to be your best friend. He is an evolving human being who happens to be an artist who is gracious enough to share his art with us. Like the rest of us he is just trying to find his way. He isn’t a saint (though he sounds like an angel) and neither are the rest of you. Marley said ” if you are going to point the finger at me you better have clean hands” (or something to that effect) , Van Morrison is not a particularly personable being, neither was Ernest Hemmingway, what about David Crosby and his troubles.. and the list goes on. Who cares? enjoy and appreciate and learn from what they have to offer and carry on or find what does turn you on. His personal life is none of you business. Why can’t the music be enough?

  16. Rebecca says:

OF COURSE SHE IS A POET! oh, and so primitive and love the haunting old fashioned eyes too

  17. DUHH says:

@jo How about you GET A LIFE. All they did was speak the truth about him. He disrespects his commitment to his wife and he was rude to fans. If the truth about him bothers you than that’s your problem. Nobodies saying he is a saint, their just saying hes an adulterer. Your very naive to think personal life and the personal music people make aren’t connected. Its annoying when musicians sing about love and respect then turn around and do the opposite.

  18. Ned says:

Adultery? Rude to fans? Pictures? Video? Ill believe it when we have proof, chances are the Unidentified Internet prophet is false. Slander.
