Oscar Season is Awards Season: Who Will Be Chozen?

It is indeed Oscar season.  As I prep to watch the Red Carpet Arrivals and expertly judge the outfits of America’s glorified royalty (read: actors), I’m thinking about awards and what makes somebody good enough to be chosen to win. 

About a week ago, I noticed that my home boy, Gareth Asher had posted news about being nominated for a Chozen Award for Musician of the Year and included a link.

Always a supporter of Gareth, I voted and re-posted for people to vote for him.  Gareth sent another post saying this:

Thanks ya’ll. Hey I just noticed my friend Alison Rizk is nominated for Best Blogger. She did an interview with me not to far back, and is extremely talented with her words, and her love for music is endless. Future voters give her some love for me. Thanks.

W-H-A-T?????????????????  How did that happen??????  I didn’t even notice my name was up there or how I got nominated.  Especially being a new blogger and someone who has struggled with creative writing and general bloggery (is that a word?  it is now – please start using it), this has come as a very welcome and exciting surprise.  I immediately alerted everyone in this hemisphere to vote for both of us!

This exciting chain of events reminded me of my college days.  During my sophomore year at Kean College (now the prestigious Kean University…ahem!), I discovered we had a radio station and fell in love.  I switched my major to broadcasting and got an on-air shift on Friday mornings at 8am.  As someone who flunked a communications class because it was earlier than 11am, I miraculously was happy to get up to make my shift (barely).

Keep in mind, I was HOR-REN-DOUS on air.  Not that I had any listeners because our station only had 10 watts.  Yup, that’s right.  My hair dryer was thousands of time more powerful that the frequency of 90.3, WKNJ-FM.

Wow, I’m awesome.  As you can see, this distracted college co-ed didn’t even remember to give a station ID or really any real information at all.  But here’s the kicker, somehow I was nominated and won TWO years in a row as Kean College’s coveted DJ of the Year and for my final year, got awarded with the honor or being Senior DJ of the Year.  Sadly for my post-college life, this is my proudest achievement ever. 

 

I always wondered  how I got these awards.  The only thing I could think of is that there was one thing I knew I was good at…Passion and grinding hard work. 

Radiopotato.com is no exception.  I work my a*s off every single day!  I’m committed to learning how to translate my passion for music to compel readers to take action.  The artists that I promote are people I feel so strongly will be the future of our musical landscape and just need a listen.

Having said that, I will shamelessly ask for you to vote for ALLISON RIZK for Blogger of the Year at www.chozenawards.com and make sure you choose Gareth Asher for Musician of the Year.
