June’s Top 5 Summer Songs 2010
RadioPotato’s June’s Top 5 Summer songs will make you want to do backflips off of a diving board. PLUS many of them are so new they haven’t even hit the radar yet…until now. Enjoy! As always, there’s a continuous music player of all 5 songs below and you can VOTE for your favorite song at the bottom of the post.
1. “Wreckin’ Ball” – Daniel Kamas – Once again, my Twitter friend @254mochacharlie came through with this piece of pure gold. I was so taken by this song that I immediately recommended it for TV/movie placement. It’s got a dirty, gritty rock feel that draws the audience in to a building glorious repeated chorus. Everyone I’ve played it for is instantly drawn in and singing it long after the song ends. Dan is a Seattle-based artist that recently released a 4-song EP, Santa Elena in tribute to his Texas roots. His video for another song “Golden Hour” is a touching homage to his beloved father who died when Dan was very young. MySpace | Twitter | Facebook | Download
2. “On the Radio” – Jake Hall This guy is so ridiculous. I sent this video to some of my music fanatic friends and 100% of them loved it. Jake is London-based and only 20 years old. Currently in the process of recording his music, there are no downloads available yet. There is no .mp3 audio of “On the Radio” yet but the video will make you want to get up and dance. I included the song I was introduced to, ”Special,” in the playlist below. I LOVE it and send thanks to Twitter friend @jaypheonix38 for sending it my way! MySpace | Facebook | Twitter | YouTube
3. “Full Circle” – Jesi Kettering – Produced by multi-talented musician, Marc Scibilia, I was taken by the pulsing and the crackling of “Full Circle” by this budding ingenue out of Nashville. It sounds like a Grey’s Anatomy-ready song reminiscent of the depth of Tori Amos and the pop sensibility of Erin McCarley. The new EP is so new there are no downloads yet or videos for this song, but the song is on the Grooveshark playlist below. Chosen by Paste Magazine for Feb 08 CD sampler, this lady is on the rise! 4. “Twenty Two” – Wakey!Wakey! I might be late on the Wakey!Wakey! train but this Brooklyn-based quartet can really rock out. 2 girls and 2 guys in the band make for a great mix. “I was a scrawny, dopey kid—the worst athlete on the face of the planet,” says Wakey!Wakey! frontman Mike Grubbs. “You know tee ball? I got to first base one time.” Just my type of guy. Anyway, love lost and heartfelt ballads are repackaged into a bouncy piano-infused palatable sound. 5. “I Was Thinking” – Gauntlet Hair – I heard this on XM and just loved the wide beats and alternative echoes throughout the song. It reeks of indie snobbery of “I found it first” but the claps, loops, and high treble have a mass appeal that can break this band wide open. Two BFF’s, Andy R. and Craig Nice from Colorado, that have been making tunes since they were 15 are in the studio and getting to release their first album. MySpace | Facebook | Download/Pre-Order

Maybe its the Texan in me that makes me biased, but I’m loving Daniel Kamas.
I agree, Andrew! He is REALLY great. I’m wanting to fly out to seattle to interview him. He’s THAT good.
